Never Stop Learning
Note: The Bushwick Community Darkroom partners with Brooklyn Central to provide the classes listed below. Please see BCD Classes & Workshops to view additional courses organized independently by our community members.
Offered in collaboration with our friends at BKC | Brooklyn Central, these classes are perfect for analog enthusiasts, or as a refresher to the darkroom process. Get up to speed quickly with these smart, intuitive workshops and learn how to process, print and manipulate analog photography using time-honored techniques and a classic, hands-on approach.
Join us for an action-packed day of analog film photography. Using traditional film cameras, we’ll shoot, develop, contact and print—walking you through the entire process of classic darkroom photography. Take home your own silver-based prints that you create from start to finish.
In three hours, we’ll show you how to take a 35mm black-and-white film negative and print it using an enlarger and traditional chemistry. You’ll learn how to make test strips, contact prints, enlargement prints and how to properly develop, fix, wash and dry your print.
This class will cover basic enlarger operation, contact printing of negatives, as well as color filtration to balance out color casts and achieve a great-looking print. Additionally we'll discuss proper darkroom etiquette and safety so that you'll be able to use the color darkroom with confidence.
Never processed film before? No problem! Learn to load a film reel and practice the analog film development process. We'll also show you how to properly wash, dry and store your processed negatives for archival purposes, so that they still look great many decades from now.
If you'd prefer to develop your skills in a one-on-one environment, we're happy to help. We can custom-design an analog lesson that addresses your specific needs, with darkroom time and all processing chemistry included in the hourly price. You set the agenda, we provide the know-how.
