CLASSES
We offer affordable classes to both beginner and experienced photographers.
Our classes have been re-designed in light of Covid-19 to preserve social distancing measures as well as the healthy and safety of our staff, teachers, clients and students. All BCD Staff & Teachers are fully vaccinated but masks are strongly encouraged for everyone at all times.
Intermediate B&W Printing
In this class we will build on the lessons learned in Intro to B&W printing. The first third of the session will be reviewing everyone's knowledge level & getting set up on the more advanced enlargers. The second third of the class will focus on printing with fiber paper & contrast filters. The final third of the class will cover archival washing and drying techniques. Students should come with a developed roll of film, all other materials are provided.
Intro to Cyanotype Printing
Truly the simplest and most accessible of the alternative processes. For this class students should come prepared with at least one 4x5 or 8x10 negative. Class will cover mixing chemistry, coating paper, exposure and developing. Students are also welcome to bring objects like leaves, lace or flowers to make prints with instead of or in addition to large format negatives.
Intro to Solarplates
Solarplates are truly one of the coolest inventions. BCD Founder Lucia first encountered them during her semester abroad in Paris in 2008 but because of the language barrier had not been able to actually figure out what they were until now.
Solarplates are pre-coated steel sheets that can be exposed to UV light, developed in water & used for print making!
Photo-gravure/Photo-etching without the toxic chemicals!
