Riley Stenehjem Opening Reception

Join us for the opening of our next art installation with BCD Volunteer Riley Stenehjem!

Riley is a student and photographer who grew up between northwestern Pennsylvania and Southern California. They are currently studying the relationship between race, photography, and colonialism at NYU. Creating images that work to distort and defamiliarize the human body and our conceptions of ourselves.

"At 14, I moved away from my hometown of 3,000 people in rural Pennsylvania. With each year that has passed, I've felt both increasingly foreign and attached to the place that I call my home. Going back now feels as if I'm stepping out of space and time, into another world where I'm enveloped by the unchanged environment of my past. This work attempts to articulate those mixed emotions with a close-up glimpse of my loved ones and the spaces they inhabit. I'm also interested in the implications of bringing the deeply personal and intimate space of the family into public view."

Free and open to the public, the opening reception is on Thursday, June 6th from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. We hope to see you there for friends, art, and drinks!
