Partner Spotlight: Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC)

Founded in 1963, the Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC) has a 60-year legacy of promoting the art of photography in the Rocky Mountain region through exhibitions, education, and community outreach. Early exhibits featured major artists such as Paul Strand, Judy Dater, and Richard Misrach, and Ansel Adams helped establish CPAC’s Permanent Collection of 800 fine art prints. Part of CPAC’s legacy is that photography is now widely shown in the Western region at museums and institutions that once disregarded the medium.

Today, CPAC is the central hub for the photography community in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region, with more than 550 members, year-round exhibitions, classes and workshops, and events. Exhibitions emphasize quality with a focus on contemporary ideas presented by established, emerging, and underrepresented voices. CPAC’s educational programming includes classes and workshops, artist talks, portfolio reviews, and artist resources including an onsite digital lab, darkroom, and library.

The Schneider Darkroom at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center is a 168 sq foot black and white darkroom space, which includes two 7ft stainless steel sinks that can accommodate 16x20” trays. There are 3 Omega enlargers capable of printing from 35mm to 4x5 inch negatives with contact printers and easels. The space includes metal and plastic reels and tanks for developing film. Archival print washers can hold up to 16x20” prints. We utilize Sprint black and white chemistry. CPAC offers daily member and nonmember rates for working in the space. We are offering UFLN Photographers our member pricing for darkroom rentals.
