Thank You. Here’s What Comes Next.
After fifteen years spent building Bushwick Community Darkroom, I’m returning to my own work. Thank you for the support—and here’s what comes next: one-of-one silver gelatin prints, room to breathe, and a future beyond the darkroom.
Bushwick Community Darkroom Closed. Here’s What Happened.
Bushwick Community Darkroom closed permanently on June 30, 2026, after fifteen years. This is the story of how the space reached its end, why the final attempts to save it failed, and why I am choosing not to rebuild it.
Open Call: “Chemical Imbalance” @ Superfair! DC (Nov 2025)
For the Chemical Imbalance theme, we are seeking images that lean into unrest — the fractures, the unease, the unstable moments that refuse to smooth themselves out. Think about imbalance in the world around you and in the quiet corners of your own life: the way power tilts, the way bodies ache, the way climate and community shift under pressure.
This Week at BCD
It’s somehow already the middle of August, and honestly, both the city and the darkroom feel pretty quiet right now. I need to share something real with you: I can’t keep this place running on my own. If the community doesn’t truly need it — if people don’t show up for classes, memberships, and events — then we may not be able to keep the doors open much longer.
This Week at BCD
Start 2025 with Creativity at BCD!
Kick off the new year with two incredible events at Bushwick Community Darkroom.
📅 Saturday, January 11 (6–9 PM): Join us for the opening reception of Tormentas Privadas, an evocative exhibit by our Artist-in-Residence, Anthony Lozado. Through stunning black-and-white photography, Anthony captures the resilience and vibrancy of Bushwick’s community. Meet the artist, enjoy refreshments, and tour our creative space.
📅 Sunday, January 12 (4–6 PM): Get hands-on with film photography at our Intro to Camera class. Learn to load film, master exposure, and take consistently great shots—all in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment.
Don’t miss this opportunity to explore, learn, and connect with fellow creatives. Spots for the class are limited, and RSVPs for the exhibit are encouraged.
