The source of my smoke
Comes from the habit
of instant satisfaction.
The cry of my joints
from the push and pull
of my nervous system.
Do you breathe when you hustle?
A mirror placed so high,
The wall across,
No sight of me.
The light,
diced by blind and bar
Adapted to illuminate
my cheekbone.
As if security was vanity,
I flutter at my Imperfections.
It isn’t me, it may be
The negativity of improvement.
Pejota, is an NJ-NY raised and based artist primarily working within the realms of video performance, photography & poetry. In these mediums, I explore cultural issues of race, queerness, and generational trauma from an Ecuadorian-American perspective.
