Inspired by paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, I endeavour to create images that give the viewer the perception that images are reminiscent of classic works of art. Within these portraits I am capturing subjects in repose, with a softness, placidity and tranquility. I work mainly in film and digital medium format and polaroid. I have an aversion to images that are digitally altered, I feel the essence of the image should be created within the camera, embracing “flaws”, in a conscious effort to contrast the over filtered and altered images we are bombarded with.
